Microneedling

The idea of having a bunch of tiny needles rolled across your face may sound scary, but Microneedling has become one of the best-kept secrets in the beauty industry! It is safe, improves skin texture and tone, and is usually less expensive than lasers with a lower risk and quicker recovery.

Microneedling is a go-to anti-aging treatment because it stimulates collagen and elastin. Thus it is also known as “collagen induction therapy”. Growth factors can be applied to stimulate new cell and collagen growth. When this is done in conjunction with Microneedling, the combination of the two can provide optimal results for smooth, tight and glowing skin. It also makes a world of difference for those who suffer from acne scars.

Does Microneedling hurt?

A topical anesthetic cream is applied before the treatment, so discomfort is minimal. The most sensitive areas tend to be the forehead and upper lip.

What to expect?

Redness, swelling and some tightness after the treatment, may occur, but typically only lasts 24 – 48 hours, until the skin returns to normal. Your skin can feel dry for a few days after treatment and you may have slight flaking of your skin. The use of sunscreen and avoidance of direct sunlight is strongly recommended after treatment.

How long before you see results?

While Microneedling is a revolutionary skin treatment, the healing results are seen over time. The Final results won’t be noticeable, depending on the individual, for three to twelve months, as boosting collagen and elastin within the dermis takes time. The best visible results are seen with a series of at least 4 – 6 treatments, spaced 4 – 6 weeks apart.

Before your Microneedling Treatment?

  • No Retin-A products or applications 12 hours prior to your treatment
  • No prolonged sun exposure to the face 24 hours prior to your treatment. Microneedling treatment will not be administered on sunburned skin.
  • If an active or extreme breakout occurs before treatment, please consult your practitioner
  • If you have cold sore breakouts, please use Valtrex 3 days before and after treatment.
  • It is safe to get Botox and Microneedling on the same day. Botox is placed deeper and Microneedling treats superficial layers.
  • Fillers can be used in conjunction with Microneedling. If you want both on the same day, Microneedle first then Botox. If you opt for filler first, I recommend Microneedling to be spaced no sooner than 2 weeks post filler treatment.

What to expect after your Microneedling Treatment?

Immediately after your treatment, you will look as though you have moderate to severe sunburn and your skin may feel warm and tighter than usual. Redness and some swelling can be expected. This is all normal and typically lasts 24 – 48 hours.
